Spend a summer day picking fresh berries at these farms near Calgary

10 July 20263 Mins Read

Nothing says summer quite like spending an afternoon outside, wandering through fields of fresh berries, and picking the perfect ones to take home. U-pick farms around Calgary are getting ready to open for the season, giving you the chance to grab a bucket and enjoy the sunshine as you pick your way through some of Alberta’s best produce.

Now, let’s take a look at when these local farms are opening and what you can expect to pick this year.

Saskaberry Ranch is getting ready for another summer of fresh berries, and this year’s crop is looking promising. Saskatoon berries are expected to be ready around Saturday, July 18, with sour cherries following in early August.

When: Opens Saturday, July 18, 2026, for the U-pick season
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: Township Rd. 324, Mountain View County, Alta.
Cost: Admission starting at $3 per person

Located just south of Calgary, the Saskatoon Farm is one of the city’s go-to spots for u-pick berries and fresh local produce. This year, you can look forward to picking Saskatoon berries starting in late July, sour cherries in early August, and apples in early September.

When: U-pick opens in late July
Time: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Where: 80181 338th Ave. E, Foothills County
Cost: $20 per 5 lb bucket of berries

If you’re looking for a quieter berry-picking experience, Purple Ridge Farm is a great spot to check out. The small family farm is located near Airdrie and offers a more personal u-pick experience, where you can book an appointment to pick seasonal favourites like raspberries, rhubarb, zucchini, potatoes, and peas.

When: By appointment
Time: By appointment
Where: 107 Farries Dr., Airdrie, Alta.
Cost: $2 per pound

If you’re up for a little road trip, The Jungle Farm is a great spot to add to your list. Here, you can pick your own strawberries, raspberries, and Saskatoons, then stop by the greenhouse and general store for plants, produce, and goodies to take home.

When: Opens mid-July
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 28110 Township Rd. 362, Red Deer County, Alta.
Cost: $5.25 per pound

Prairie Berry Farm has been growing Saskatoon berries for over a decade, giving you a chance to pick fresh fruit straight from the source. There are three different varieties of pesticide-free Saskatoon berries to choose from, and you can even enjoy them right from the bucket.

When: Opens mid-July
Time: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 28110 Township Rd. 362, Red Deer County, Alta.
Cost: $3.50 per pound

Now all that’s left to do is pick your favourite farm, grab a bucket, and start planning your next berry-picking adventure!
