Spontaneous day trips to take from Vancouver over the Easter long weekend

31 March 20263 Mins Read

Long weekends are all about venturing outside of the city and making the most of any time off. And now that the weather is taking a warm and sunny turn, there’s no reason why you can’t explore somewhere new. All that’s left is to hop in a car and drive.

Here are some of the best spontaneous day trips you can take from Vancouver over the Easter long weekend.

Let’s start with the closest spot to the city. One of the most scenic places in the Lower Mainland, Deep Cove is especially popular for paddleboard and kayak enthusiasts, who can paddle their way through the sheltered harbour into the Indian Arm. But there’s no wrong way to relax here. Grab a Honey’s donut, lounge on the beach, or head up to Quarry Rock to take in the spectacular views from above.

Distance from Vancouver: 40 minutes by car

Bowen Island is the perfect day trip destination if you physically want to leave the mainland, but can’t score ferry tickets to Vancouver Island. It’s just a 20-minute ferry ride from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver, and there are tons of nature trails to explore, including the popular Mount Gardner Loop Trail. Or if beachcombing is more your thing, there are plenty of natural, rocky beaches to check out.

Don’t forget to grab a fresh pint from Riley’s Cidery or a scoop of ice cream from Earnest in Snug Cove.

Distance from Vancouver: One hour and 35 minutes by car

Fancy a day by Harrison Lake? Harrison Hot Springs is a 90-minute drive from the city and an idyllic spot to unwind in. Whether you choose to kayak, go for a scenic hike or golf session, or relax at the hot spring pools at the resort, you’re guaranteed a relaxing visit.

Distance from Vancouver: One and a half hours by car

Food. Art. Craft beer. Waterfalls galore. Squamish is a cornerstone for all things outdoors, but there’s also plenty to do if you just want to hang out without the climbing or hiking equipment. Grab a coffee and do some thrift shopping in Squamish’s quaint downtown, head to Backcountry Brewing, or check out the views from the famous Sea-to-Sky Gondola.

Distance from Vancouver: 50 minutes by car

Maybe a stroll through a quaint downtown is what you’re after. If that’s the case, you can’t do much better than Fort Langley, which is known for its brunch, cafes, window shopping, and the historic Fort Langley National Historic Site.

Distance from Vancouver: 50 minutes by car

Situated in Belcarra Regional Park, Sasamat Lake is a popular choice among swimming enthusiasts during the warmer months, but it’s just as stunning during the springtime. Its clear waters offer refuge from the sweat you’ll work up on a hike, and it’s just a one-hour drive away from the city.
