According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), listeria are germs that can contaminate many foods. Those who consume food with listeria can get infected with the bacteria and become ill as a result.
People who are particularly vulnerable to a serious listeria infection includes pregnant people, newborns, adults ages 65 and older and those with weakened immune systems. According to the CDC, other people can become sick with a listeria infection but rarely become seriously ill outside of those aforementioned groups.
The recall, which was announced by Sprouts on October 8, 2025, was initiated by the company because Sprouts was alerted by their supplier Fresh Creative Foods about the potential listeria contamination of the pasta within the pasta salad. At this time, no illnesses related to the pasta salad have been reported.
