“And this is true nowhere more than Italy, where even the shape of your pasta and the sauce you serve it with differentiates the character and history of each region sharply from the next,” the voiceover continued over clips of the actor touring various scenic locations and sampling tempting-looking dishes.
“I’m exploring the complex connections between the land, the people, and the food they eat in order to discover the essence of each region in a country I love: Italy,” Tucci said.

Fans on TikTok agreed that Tucci was the perfect man for his new gig.
“Honestly, this is the best guy to do this journey other than anthony. I hope he throws a little snarky humor in this,” one person wrote (referring to the late Anthony Bourdain).
“He’s a more proud Italian than many of us living in Italy! Well done! Thanks for shedding a light on those less famous but super unique regions we have,” another commenter chimed in, with someone else adding, “There isn’t a better human to do the journey. I can’t wait to watch!”
According to a press release, the series will see Tucci indulge in a “lavish Sienese feast in Tuscany,” uncover “futuristic farm-to-table delicacies in Lombardy,” and rediscover “the rustic soul of Lazio through its timeless culinary rituals.”
“It’s about more than just the food; it’s about the people, the history, and the passion that makes Italy so special,” Tucci said in the same release, adding, “I hope you’ll join me on this new adventure. I believe that eating well is inspiring, and I hope to inspire viewers to embrace the beauty and richness of Italian culture.”
Tucci in Italy premieres May 18 on National Geographic, with all episodes streaming the next day on Disney+ and Hulu.
