Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel
Star Hotels, a division of Star Group, has expanded its holdings in Queensland with the purchase of the Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel. Wayne Bunz, National Director of CBRE Hotels, managed the transaction through an exclusive, invitation-only sale campaign.
This latest acquisition signifies the company’s second hospitality investment on the Gold Coast. The Star Group portfolio now includes 50 licensed venues, over 115 retail liquor stores, and six accommodation venues across Queensland.
The Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel is in an area experiencing strong growth and resilience, particularly in the tourism sector. The hotel’s prime location is expected to draw significant domestic and international visitors, ensuring a consistent demand for the Star Group.
The acquisition aligns with Star Group’s strategic plan to expand into thriving areas, allowing the company to capitalize on the Gold Coast’s robust hospitality market.
The Rydges Gold Coast Airport Hotel was developed by John “Foxy” Robinson, a distinguished hotelier known for developing and selling iconic properties such as the Darwin Airport Resort and Darwin Airport Inn. The seven-story hotel, which opened in 2020, features 192 guest rooms and suites, along with considerable facilities, including the Runway Italian Restaurant, The Salty Fox Rooftop Bar, 10 conference and event spaces, a swimming pool, a gym, and ample parking.
The Gold Coast tourism market is experiencing a boost from increased international travel. CBRE’s research predicts domestic tourism will continue to support the stability of the average daily rate (ADR).
The ongoing expansion of the Gold Coast Airport, including plans for a retail village, health and wellness hub, and conference and tech centre, is expected to further the hotel’s attractiveness and success in the coming years.
