Actor Alden Ehrenreich is opening up about taking on the iconic role of Han Solo, originated by Harrison Ford, in the 2017 Star Wars film, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
During an August 2025 interview with Collider, Ehrenreich shared whether he’d ever consider reprising Han again in a future Star Wars project.
“It would have to really, really be the right version of it,” said the Weapons actor.
In addition, he shared some insight into how he’s played his characters, including Han, in his past projects.
“Your job as an actor, in a way, is to use the energy that’s happening [around you]. And sometimes that energy involves stress, but characters are under stress. There are very few characters who are just having a ball. So it’s contributive sometimes. As long as it’s an environment where people feel safe,” said Ehrenreich to the publication.
In a May 2018 interview with The Upcoming, Ehrenreich shared he was “over the moon” when he got cast for Solo, which is a prequel to the 1977 film Star Wars: A New Hope. He explained he was excited to be part of such a beloved franchise.
“I was ecstatic. I was really over the moon. It’s really special and it’s special to be apart of a franchise that has so much heart. And that means so much to people. And to get to play a character who has so much dimension in that universe, is wonderful,” said Ehrenreich during the 2018 interview.
In a 2018 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ehrenreich said he met up with Ford when he started shooting Solo. When asked if the Indiana Jones star gave him any advice, Ehrenreich replied, “He said, ‘If anyone asks tell him I told you everything you need to know.'”
The character Han is murdered by his son Kylo Ren, also known as Ben Solo (Adam Driver) in Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens, which premiered in 2015. During a May 2016 interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Ford said he wasn’t sad about his Star Wars character’s death.
“I argued for 30 years for this to happen. And finally, I wore them down,” quipped Ford.
