Stardew Valley fans just got massive news, but don’t get too excited yet

1 September 20252 Mins Read

It’s always a good idea to start a new Stardew Valley playthrough. But, considering the recent news from the popular farming-sim developer ConcernedApe (real name Eric Barone) that confirms a Stardew Valley 1.7 update is on the way, maybe it’s best to hold off for now.

Taking to the social media platform X, the developer posted an image stating “There will be a Stardew Valley 1.7 update” and signed off with his username. However, the developer clarified further in his post that the update has no release date or estimate.

When asked whether this new update would affect the development of Barone’s upcoming game, Haunted Chocolatier — a game in which the player makes and sells chocolate to ghosts — Barone confirmed that it wasn’t his plan for this new update to hinder the development of his future game.

Stardew Valley’s last update, 1.6, included a truly eye-watering amount of changes. Not only were there bug fixes and item updates, but the game received new festivals and events, like the Squid Festival and Trout Derby. Then there was the mastery system, which allowed players to further upgrade their skills and, if you’re someone who just needs even more pets, the option to get more of them. 1.6 even added the opportunity for you to get a turtle, because why stop at cats and dogs?

The world map is so much easier to use now!

While we don’t know what’s in store for the Stardew Valley 1.7 update, the potential to get even more from Pelican Town and its townies will no doubt put a spring in the step of any fan waiting for an excuse to venture back to the valley for yet another foray into farming life.
