New Zealand’s hotel market recorded another strong month of growth in July, with nationwide RevPAR increasing 14% year-on-year, according to Hotel Data New Zealand (HDNZ).

Chinese room nights increased 60%, alongside growth from Australian and US visitors. Auckland recorded the strongest major-market RevPAR growth (+19.6%), followed by Queenstown (+19.2%), the North Island overall (+18.2%) and Christchurch (+11.8%).

Growth reflected gains in both occupancy and ADR, led by international demand: international room nights increased 15.5%, compared with 4.3% growth in domestic room nights.

In terms of hotel occupancy, Nelson, Rotorua and Wellington were the only markets to report a year-on-year slowdown in demand.
