Globally experienced hotelier brings over 28 years of proven leadership ahead of the hotel’s rebranding under Mandarin Oriental in Q1 2026.

The Conservatorium Hotel, located in the heart of Amsterdam’s vibrant Museum Quarter, opened its doors in 2011 as the city’s first Modern Grand Hotel. Over the years, it has become one of Amsterdam’s most iconic luxury destinations, renowned for its distinctive design, world-class service, and exceptional hospitality.

In anticipation of the hotel’s rebranding under Mandarin Oriental in the first quarter of 2026, Susanne Hatje has been appointed as General Manager effective 2 June 2025. Hatje brings more than 28 years of international hospitality experience, including 18 years in senior leadership roles within the Group.

Most recently, Hatje served as General Manager of Mandarin Oriental, Mayfair in London, where she oversaw the pre-opening and launch of the hotel from 2022. Prior to that, she led the award-winning Mandarin Oriental, New York for nine years. Her extensive background includes senior positions in Munich, Hong Kong, Boston, Las Vegas, and Hawaii, as well as a key role in the openings of Mandarin Oriental, Boston and The Landmark Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong.

In her new role at the Conservatorium Hotel, Hatje will draw on her international expertise to guide the hotel’s upcoming rebranding and repositioning. Her longstanding experience with brand transformations will be instrumental in elevating the hotel to new levels of excellence.

“I am looking forward to working with all my colleagues at Conservatorium Hotel and would like to thank them for their warm welcome to Amsterdam. Mandarin Oriental is excited to be bringing our award-winning luxury brand to this wonderful city and we are equally delighted to have this opportunity to further strengthen this iconic landmark, which is so well regarded as one of the city’s most loved hotels,” said Susanne Hatje.

This strategic rebranding comes at a dynamic time for Amsterdam’s luxury hospitality scene, which is experiencing rapid growth and an influx of global brands. With Hatje’s leadership and the strength of Mandarin Oriental, the Conservatorium Hotel is set to retain and enhance its leading position in the city’s high-end market.
