Farmer Wants a Wife‘s Sydney has gone to great lengths to prove to Mitchell that she’s the one for him. She’s shown him her callouses, gushed over his mounted deer head and swung an ax like a pro (or a psycho, depending on your POV). But no matter how hard she’s tried (and she’s tried very hard), Mitchell has not picked her for a solo date. Until now.
After rudely bringing a fourth woman back to the farm on last week’s episode, Mitchell started this week’s hour by choosing Sydney for his next one-on-one, calling her selection “well deserved” (because what every woman really wants to hear when she’s asked out on a date is that she’s earned it). Sydney being outdoorsy and all, he decides to take her fishing.

The afternoon goes nicely enough. Sydney marvels at how similar she and Mitchell are and teases that she “comes with baggage” only to reveal that she has two sheep back home named Teddy and Tucker (no mention of the deep-rooted issues that explain her eager personality).

The fishing portion of their evening ends with Sydney ecstatically catching a trout—because of course it does—and from there, she and Mitchell return to dry land for a cozy chat by the water. Mitchell, armed with a guitar, taps into his inner Tim McGraw and starts singing a little ditty he makes up on the spot.
“You’re lucky and I’m lucky too,” he sings with a twang. “I could see you floatin’, like this river, catching trout with you till the end of forever.” It’s not terrible, but Sydney looks like she’s having an out of body experience, and not necessarily the good kind. They kiss.
“It feels good, it feels right,” she tells the cameras. But something tells us she’s still thinking about the fish she caught.
By the end of the episode, Mitchell seems closer to Sydney, but not much closer to arriving at his final pick. Will he choose Sydney, Kiana, Kait or Natalie, who he doesn’t even seem to like? If he doesn’t decide soon, he might find that Sydney has returned home to her sheep on her own accord.
