  • Sydney hotels achieved record-high average daily rates and revenue per available room in August.
  • Major events, including the Sydney Marathon and British and Irish Lions Tour, significantly boosted hotel occupancy.

Sydney’s hotel industry recorded its highest average daily rate (ADR) and revenue per available room (RevPAR) for August, according to preliminary data from CoStar. The occupancy rate reached 84.4%, representing an 8.7% increase from the previous year. The ADR rose by 14.9% to AUD285.71, and RevPAR increased by 24.9% to AUD241.18.

The highest occupancy was recorded on the night before the Sydney Marathon, with a rate of 95.1%. On that day, the ADR was AUD414.96, and RevPAR reached AUD394.76. The Sydney Marathon’s inclusion in the global marathon series contributed to increased participation.

Additionally, the final game of the British and Irish Lions Tour on 2 August resulted in an occupancy rate of 92.8%, with ADR and RevPAR at AUD390.18 and AUD361.91, respectively.

Throughout August, Sydney’s hotel occupancy exceeded 70% on all nights except for 24 August, when it was 67.5%.
