If you’re keen to really, really shake things up in 2025, could acquiring a digital nomad visa and kick-starting a new life overseas be what you need? If so, listen up.
Taiwan has just become the latest country to launch a digital nomad visa (as of January 1) and areas including Hualien, Taitung, Tainan, and Pingtung are all welcoming remote workers with open arms.
Once acquired, the visa is valid for six months with the possibility of extending for another six months, according to euronews.
It’s all part of the country’s new plans to make permanent residence easier for skilled and high-earning foreign workers, and the aim is to attract a whopping 400,000 people by 2032 under this scheme.
So, why is Taiwan keen to welcome so many people? Well, the nation is currently experiencing a workforce crisis, and is even considering offering 10,000 workers ‘employment gold cards’ after their one-year visa expires – they’re clearly keen for people to hang around.
But Taiwan has got a lot to offer – firstly because it’s working in conjunction with Japan and South Korea to ensure their respective visa offerings complement each other. Then there’s that glorious subtropical climate, the sprinkling of temples and the wonderful landscape.
To be eligible, you’ll need to be able to work remotely in Taiwan and have earned $60,000 last year (if you’re aged 30 or above) or $24,000 (if you’re between 20 and 29). To read more and to apply, you can do so here.
