The Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced the winners of the 2025 Dora Awards during a Monday evening ceremony hosted by Peter Fernandes at Meridian Hall, with 26 individual artists and companies receiving their first-ever Doras.
Canadian Stage’s presentation of Why Not Theatre’s Mahabharata: Part One: Karma: The Life We Inherit led the general theatre division, taking home five Doras; Flex, produced by Crow’s Theatre and Obsidian Theatre, won two.
In the independent theatre division, Coal Mine Theatre’s People, Places and Things earned four awards, while Bad New Days’ Last Landscape and CORPUS’ Mukashi, Mukashi (Once Upon a Time) each secured a pair.
Tying with the Canadian premiere of A Strange Loop for two awards in the musical theatre division, Shifting Ground Collective’s The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee took home outstanding production and outstanding creative direction, beating out multiple larger-scale productions. The show also received the Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award, voted on by the public.
This year’s Silver Ticket Award, presented annually by TAPA to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to the performing arts in Toronto, was awarded to Beatriz Pizano, founding artistic director of Aluna Theatre.
