A satchel bag is a savvy way to carry a lot of stuff in style. Tote bags do the trick too, but they can take up a lot of space and aren’t always ideal for nights out or quick runs to the store.
Target’s East West Satchel Handbag from A New Day is a great all-occasion option for $30 and features an expensive-looking design that rivals a popular style that would otherwise run you a whopping $3,200.

Available in three faux leather color options, including versatile black, rich brown, and contrasting black and cream, this compact carrier features two of-the-moment handbag trends: an east-west silhouette and a posh braid-like quilting texture. It’s also reminiscent of popular bowling bag styles, which often have a spacious rectangular structure and slim top handle straps. A New Day’s iteration offers a convertible crossbody strap, too, along with an internal zip pocket, and an attached external pouch that “you can carry your keys in,” said one reviewer.
“This bag is little but it holds a lot,” said one shopper. “I was able to fit my full-sized wallet, sunglasses case, AirPods, gum, lotion, phone, and still had room for a few more little things. I love how long the strap is to wear as a crossbody.” Another said, “The puffiness gives it a very high-quality feel. It reminds me of the real leather of my Gucci bag. It’s actually really good quality for the price.”
Another shopper agrees that “It looks more expensive than it is,” and cleverly hinted that “it has a similar vibe to a particular designer bag (rhymes with ‘you you’) that costs close to $3,000.” The bag they’re likely referring to is the popular Miu Miu Arcadie Bag, which costs 106x the price. Aside from the significant price difference, the leather designer iteration is smaller in size and doesn’t offer the option to convert it to a crossbody.

More reviewers say the affordable bag is “roomy, comfortable, and most of all quite chic,” while serving as a great alternative to “carrying around a big purse when you don’t want to.” Moral of the story? Save your cash and stash it in Target’s $30 satchel instead.
