The Batman Part 2 delayed yet again, now arriving in 2028

Fans eagerly awaiting Batman’s return to the big screen are going to have to wait a little longer. Robert Pattinson’s next outing as the Dark Knight has been delayed yet again as Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part 2 has been delayed (again) to 2028.

Warner Bros. announced the news on Wednesday amid a flurry of changes to its upcoming release schedule. J.J. Abrams’ The Great Beyond has been moved up to Oct. 1, 2027, bumping The Batman Part 2 out of its previous date and onto Feb. 18, 2028.

Matt Reeves shared the news on social media with a short camera test video showcasing Pattinson’s Batman dramatically turning toward the camera. Snow falls around him, hinting The Batman Part 2 will take place during the winter. Might Mr. Freeze show up for some cold-themed crimes? Not sure, though a more fantastical villain like Freeze might not fit into the realistic world of Reeves’ films, which he’s called a “Crime Saga.” That could also just be rain. Gotham City isn’t allowed to have good weather. That’s just against the rules.

This isn’t the first time The Batman Part 2 has been delayed. It was originally scheduled for an October 2025 release, before being delayed to October 2026 and again to October 2027. The first film came out March 4, 2022, meaning we’re looking at a six-year gap between Reeves’ Batman movies, barring any more changes to Part 2‘s release date.

The Batman Part 2 will bring back stars Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/Penguin, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. New to Reeves stand-alone Batman-verse are actors Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, and Brian Tyree Henry, in unannounced roles. Rumors point to Stan playing serial killer Victor Zsasz, while Henry has reportedly been cast as Harvey Dent, also known as the villain Two-Face.
