The Batman Part 2 director confirms Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan have joined the cast

Matt Reeves has teased that Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan will be part of The Batman Part 2 cast, confirming that two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s biggest stars will soon appear in a DC movie.

The Batman Part 2 recently started filming, and director Matt Reeves has been excitedly posting about the production on X. On May 14, he posted “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome” with a GIF of Scarlett Johansson in the rearview mirror of a car from Under the Skin. He then shared another post that read “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome,” accompanied by a GIF of Sebastian Stan.

Johansson and Stan’s involvement in The Batman Part 2 had previously been teased by Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter, but DC Studios had not officially acknowledged those reports. Now that Reeves has confirmed that Johansson is in the movie, it’s possible that previous casting reports about actors like Charles Dance being in The Batman Part 2 could also be accurate.

While Johansson has a storied career as an actor, she’s best known in comic-book circles for playing Black Widow in several Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. Her character died in Avengers: Endgame and has since been succeeded in the MCU by Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, making this the perfect time for Johansson to make the jump from Marvel to DC. Stan is still appearing in MCU movies and will reprise his role as Bucky in Avengers: Doomsday later this year.

Despite the excitement surrounding this confirmation, you shouldn’t expect Johansson and Stan to appear in other DC movies like Man of Tomorrow or Clayface. As of now, The Batman and its upcoming sequel take place in a different universe from the one kicked off by Creature Commandos and Superman. It’ll also be some time before you’ll see their work here in action, as The Batman Part 2 won’t arrive in theaters until Oct. 1, 2027.
