The best beaches in Ontario for swimming, sunsets, and summer vibes

16 July 20253 Mins Read

Beach days are here, but with the recent heat wave, sitting indoors with the A/C blasting sounds more ideal. So when the weather eases up a bit and you’re up for the adventure, a day on the beach is in order. Ontario is blessed with some of the best sun-kissed, sandy beaches around. Don’t believe us? We’ve rounded up a few of the best beaches around to help you pick where to go next.

Cobourg Beach offers a stunning soft white sand shoreline, a bustling boardwalk, and calm blue waters.

You’ll also find cute, retro-style lifeguard towers and beach volleyball nets you can reserve.

Where: 138 Division St., Cobourg, Ont.

Colchester is part of Essex County, meaning your beach day is going to be in one of the province’s hottest spots!

According to Essex County’s tourism website, “Essex County is bounded on three sides by water – Lake Erie to the south, the Detroit River to the west and Lake St. Clair to the north. We are Ontario’s warmest county.”

Not only will it be warm, but it will also be very clean. “Colchester Beach is one of Essex County’s cleanest and most attractive beaches,” says Colchester’s website.

Where: 100 Jackson St., Colchester, Ont.

According to Ontario Parks, Sandbanks has “three expansive sandy beaches that some say are among the best in Canada; Outlet Beach is perfect for families, with shallow waters and gentle drop off.”

The three natural sand beaches include Outlet Beach, located in the East Lake sector of the park; Lakeshore Beach, in the Lakeshore day use area off Lake Ontario; and Dunes Beach, located in the Dunes day use area off West Lake.

Where: 3004 County Rd. 12 RR#1, Picton, Ont.

According to Destination Ontario, this beach is a “hidden gem”, known for its serene and sandy lakeside to its friendly rental cottage communities.

Though surprisingly enough, it doesn’t draw a lot of crowds. Compared to other destinations nearby, this is the place to be this summer if you’re looking for something more relaxing.

Ipperwash Beach is actually one of the longest freshwater beaches in all of Ontario. It has three separate entrances off West Ipperwash Road, Ipperwash Road, and Army Camp Road.

It’s also known for its soft sand and shallow water.

Where: 9837 County Rd. 3, Lambton Shores, Ont.

Did you know that Ontario’s Pinery Provincial Park is home to a stunning 10 km long beach? It just so happens to be the perfect spot for world-class sunsets, too.

Where: 9526 Lakeshore Rd., Grand Bend, Ont.

There’s no doubt that Wasaga Beach is one of, if not THE most popular, beach in Ontario. According to its official tourism board, it welcomes millions of visitors from around the world every year.

And luckily for you, it’s less than two hours away from Toronto, northbound. So if you’re planning a day trip, this is a great option!

Where: 11-22nd St. North, Wasaga Beach, Ont.

Have fun beachside this summer!
