The best outdoor skating trails and loops in Ontario

26 December 20254 Mins Read

Nothing is more magical than skating through a snowy winter forest, surrounded by nature. If you’re in need of a little winter escape, just before the year ends, why not explore the many skating trails and loops Ontario has to offer? Arrowhead Provincial Park is one of Ontario’s most popular snowy destinations, thanks to its famous skating trail, but there’s definitely more out there, waiting for you to enjoy.

We’ve put together a list of lengthy skating trails and loops in Ontario that are a must-try this winter season:

The park is home to the “longest outdoor man-made skating rink” in Ontario.

Per Destination Ontario, its 1.3-kilometre skating trail weaves through the forest, offering skaters a magical winter experience.

“Opened in 2012 on a whim and a vision, the Ice Skating Trail has become one of the region’s most popular winter attractions, and one of the province’s most sought-after winter ‘bucket list’ experiences,” shares Discover Muskoka.

The park also hosts its popular Fire and Ice nights, where torch lights line the trail. It’s a magical experience and is beloved every winter.

When: Open year-round for day use, sunrise to sunset
Where:
451 Arrowhead Park Rd., Huntsville, Ont.

Start sharpening those ice skates because there’s a wonderful ice skating trail in Ontario opening soon. Glide along a natural ice trail that winds past almost 100 acres of natural woods, illuminated by twinkling string lights. This gem is called Icelynd Skating Trails, and it officially opens for the season on Dec. 27, 2025.

When: Dec. 27, 2025
Where: 6865 Fernbank Rd., Stittsville, Ont.
Cost: $14+

A string of lights and lamp posts make the LV Four Season Trail shine bright during night skates! It’s a popular event throughout the winter season, bringing in over 1,000 skaters per evening.

According to organizers, it is set to open in late December 2025. An official date has not been announced, but we will be sure to keep you updated.

When: Opening late December 2025
Where:
2 Henan Rd., Pembroke, Ont.

MacGregor Point Provincial Park is one of the select parks in Ontario that’s open this time of year, and it even has a “best-kept secret”: a magical skating trail through the forest.

The 400 metre skating trail winds around forested terrain, and every evening the park turns on the trail lights for skating under the stars until 10 p.m.

When: Open year-round for day use, sunrise to sunset
Where:
1593 Bruce Rd. 33, RR#1, Port Elgin, Ont.

Light the Night at Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery is a magical skating experience in Ontario, just a drive away from the city. Glide along an ice trail lined with over 400 tiki torches, guiding your path. If you’re looking for the ultimate winter adventure, you’ve found the best thing.

It is slated to open on Dec. 27, so now is the perfect time to plan your trip up north.

The ice trail opens daily at 11 a.m.; however, the Light the Night experience only takes place on Saturdays from 6 to 9 p.m. According to Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery, it’s a 1.2 km loop that surrounds 12 acres of cranberries.

You’ll have a forest on one side and cranberry beds on the other, and it’s quite a sight to see.

When: Opens Dec. 27 to March Break, Saturday evenings
Where: Muskoka Lakes Farm and Winery – 1074 Cranberry Rd., Bala, Ont.
Cost: $30 per person

One of Canada’s most beloved cold-weather activities just got even more beautiful.

Located at the top of Blue Mountain, Woodview Mountaintop Skating offers vast views along the Niagara Escarpment as you glide around a 1.1 km skating loop.

When: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily
Where: Blue Mountain -190 Gord Canning Dr., Blue Mountains, Ont.
Cost: Access with a Single-Use Attraction Ticket

Enjoy it out there, Ontario!
