Though it may seem as if the streets are empty and everything is closed on Christmas Day, that doesn’t seem to be the case. There are still plenty of things to do in Toronto, whether you’re seeking festive fun or a quiet escape.

From cozy celebrations to fun adventures and even some normalcy, Christmas Day in Toronto proves there’s always something to do, no matter how you choose to spend it.

Here’s a list of the best things to do in Toronto on Christmas Day.

Enjoy a festive Christmas Dinner at O’Grady’s Restaurant on Church. This experience includes turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, and a medley of veggies.

Bring friends, family, even your neighbour! Just make sure everyone dining with you has a ticket for the timeslot you plan on booking.

Grab the fam and hit up your local Cineplex location on Christmas Day. Nothing is more festive than a holiday movie.

Spots like Nathan Phillips Square, The Bentway, and several local skating rinks will be free to enjoy on Christmas Day.

Just be sure to bring skates in case rentals are not available.

The Toronto Zoo is open on Christmas Day! There are over 3,000 animals and 10 km of walking trails. Lots to do, lots to see!

Celebrate the holidays at the aquarium!

Toronto’s Junction neighbourhood has transformed into a free outdoor art gallery once again. Now until Feb. 1, 2026, the fifth annual Window Wonderland event features artwork designed by local and international artists. Expect to see 20 artist-designed storefront windows and 11 vibrant murals.

According to the city, enjoy the glittering tree and public skating, and embrace the glow of thousands of energy-efficient bulbs that adorn the heart of downtown Toronto.
