The Calgary Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (July 21)

21 July 20263 Mins Read

Welcome to the Calgary group chat. The city is constantly changing, and sometimes keeping up with everything can feel like a full-time job. That’s why we’re bringing you the biggest local updates, new spots, things to do, and everything else you’ll want to know around Calgary.

Consider this your weekly shortcut to staying in the know.

Here’s everything going down this week.

CF Chinook Centre is welcoming some new stores this summer

If you’ve been to CF Chinook Centre lately, you may have noticed a few new names popping up. The mall has had some fresh additions recently, with Body Mods and Urban Behaviour now open, while Abercrombie and Fitch and Hollister are also set to return later this summer. So next time you’re there, you might have a few new stops to add to your route.

The forecast is calling for a hot week

With temperatures expected to reach highs of 32°C this week, it’s the perfect excuse to swap your indoor plans for something that helps you cool down.

Calgary has plenty of places to beat the heat, whether you want to take a dip at one of the city’s outdoor pools, spend the day at Sikome Lake, or rent a tube and float down the Bow River.

And remember to stay hydrated, pack some sunscreen, and enjoy the sunshine while it lasts because we all know that these warm Calgary days don’t stick around forever.

A new brewery spot just opened in Calgary

Need a new place to meet up with friends? Sea Change Brewing Co.’s Skelly Club might be the answer. The Calgary brewery and taproom just opened and brings together beer from Sea Change, spirits from Shiddy’s Distilling, and food from FlatBoy Burgers. The new space is located in the Beltline and gives you a little bit of everything in one stop.

You could appear in a new Western series filming in Calgary

If you’ve ever dreamed of being on the big screen, this is your opportunity. A new television series called Wildflower is filming in Calgary and southern Alberta this summer, and it’s looking for locals to join the cast as extras. The series will film in Calgary, Priddis, Millarville, and Nanton starting in late July, with paid background roles available for adults and students.

No previous acting experience is required, and you can apply through the Allcasting Extras portal by submitting your application and current photos.

Your 15 seconds of fame might be closer than you think!

Calgary is getting a brand new Chipotle location

Chipotle fans, you’ve got a new spot to add to your rotation. The restaurant is opening another Calgary location at WestHills Towne Centre on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, giving the west end of the city a new place to grab burritos, bowls, and the famous chips and guacamole. The new location marks Chipotle’s seventh restaurant in Calgary and will feature a drive-thru pick-up lane that lets guests grab digital orders without leaving their cars.

So there you have it, Calgary. From new businesses making their debut to big things happening behind the scenes, the city has been keeping us on our toes.

We’ll be back next week with another Calgary catch-up. See you then!
