As you explore the northern side of Ezo in Ghost of Yōtei, you have the opportunity to complete “The Face of a Master” and “The Face of a Demon” side quests, and investigate the mystery behind the death of a group of men. Whether you want to collect every piece of gear in the game or just enjoy the narrative bits these side quests offer, this is a great mission to go after.
Below, you learn how to complete “The Face of a Master” quest in Ghost of Yōtei and all the information you need to start it.
‘The Face of a Master’ quest walkthrough in Ghost of Yōtei
If you plan to complete “The Face of a Master” side quest, you need to visit the Nayoro Wilds region, which is north of the Tokachi Range. You can access this region by following the Kitsune quest.
Head to the Ikidomari Grove camp, which is north of the Iwori Mountain. As you get near the location, “The Face of a Master” quest will be added to your log, and you will see a few ronin in front of a wooden gate.defeating the ronin in front of the Ikidomari Grove camp and starting the “The Face of a Master” quest, untie the healer who was held captive.
Next, you need to investigate the inside of the camp and learn what happened to the men who were living there. Use your hook to open the entrance and, once inside, investigate the body with a spear sticking through it, the bucket with bandages, and the chest near the bucket to find a scroll talking about “The Curse of Kanemori.”
After you read the scroll, interact with the healer who will have you follow them to a blocked passage. Explode the rocks to open the next area, and read the inscription on the wall. Then, help the healer jump over the wall beside the inscription and investigate the destroyed house in the next area to find another scroll, which says that some men have gone to the caves at the edge of Nayoro Wilds.
Interact with the healer to complete the “The Face of a Master” quest, and unlock the “The Face of a Demon” quest. However, before you head out, make sure to open the chest beside them to get the “Charm of Unhealthy Resolve,” which is minor utility charm that restores a bit of spirit when you kill enemies in exchange for some of your maximum health.
‘The Face of a Demon’ quest walkthrough in Ghost of Yōtei
To find the remaining ronin and get to the bottom of the mystery behind the deaths in Ikidomari Grove, you must travel northeast of Kankan Creek to find the Meiro Caves. Outside of the caves, you will find a group of ronin, who you’ll need to defeat to get inside.
Once they’re defeated, enter the cave and follow the path until you reach an area with even more ronin. You can take advantage of the fact that they only attack you after you get close and take out a couple of men in this room with your bow. After all of the ronin have been dealt with, interact with the armor on the ground to complete the quest.
After finding Kanemori’s body in the Meiro Caves, you’ll receive the “Charm of Risk and Reward,” which is a minor utility charm that recovers a minor amount of health when you kill enemies, but increases the damage you take.
