The Forgotten Relic brings two of VR’s best games to consoles

14 May 20262 Mins Read

The VR-exclusive Moss series is making its jump to consoles this summer with Moss: The Forgotten Relic. The new game combines both Moss and Moss: Book 2 into one unified package that has been reworked for flat screens. It will launch this summer on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

The Moss series follows a white mouse named Quill on a fantasy adventure contained within a book. The first game was a hit in 2018, racking up award nominations at The Game Awards, The Golden Joystick Awards, and D.I.C.E. A sequel called Moss: Book 2 launched in 2022 and received similar acclaim, winning the award for Best VR/AR Game at that year’s Game Awards. Moss: The Forgotten Relic will mark the first time players will be able to experience the series without using a VR headset.

The collection unifies the first two games into one, and also includes Moss‘ Twilight Garden DLC. A few things have been tweaked to optimize the game for consoles. The visuals and performance have been enhanced, and there’s a reworked Smart Follow Camera. The Forgotten Relic will also feature new cutscenes and an accessibility feature that allows players to skip combat.

The announcement comes just over a month after developer Polyarc underwent a “significant” staff reduction. According to former employee Alex Holodak, the studio cut two-thirds of its staff after one of its in-development projects lost its funding in 2025. Polyarc is one of several VR studios to be hit with layoffs, or shuttered entirely, in the last year.

Moss: The Forgotten Relic is also the latest example of a dedicated VR developer making a pivot to console games. Vertigo Games recently revealed that it is adapting its VR-exclusive remake of The 7th Guest into a proper PC and console game, slated to launch on June 4. It’s a potential sign that the winds are changing in the VR industry as more developers in the space embrace traditional consoles.

Moss: The Forgotten Relic will launch this summer on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
