The happiest city in all of Canada is in Ontario

14 July 20252 Mins Read

Think Canada’s happiest city is somewhere out west or by the ocean? Think again! The latest Leger Happiness Index has revealed the happiest city in Canada is none other than Mississauga, Ont. Surprised? Keep on reading.

According to the latest web survey, over 39,000 Canadians aged 18 and over who could speak English or French took part in the index.

Overall, Canadians rate their happiness an average of 68.7 out of 100. About 49 per cent say their happiness has remained stable, 28 per cent report deterioration and 23 per cent report an improvement in the past year.

“These results reveal a population that is both resilient and tested, affected by everyday uncertainty and challenges,” shares the survey. “Happiness, while holding its ground overall, shows signs of fragility.”

Results

While Canada’s overall happiness score painted a modest picture, several regions across the country managed to outshine the national average.

Leading the pack is Quebec, which claimed the top spot among provinces with an impressive average happiness score of 72.4 per cent. This is well above the national benchmark.

Ontario may have landed in eighth place provincially, but one of its major cities broke through the rankings in a big way.

According to the survey, Mississauga emerged as Canada’s happiest city, boasting a score of 70.3 per cent and outperforming other spots.

Other Ontario cities that made strong showings include Hamilton, Brampton, Ottawa, and, rounding out the top 10, Toronto.

Are we surprised by these results? Makes you wonder what Mississauga’s got that the rest of us don’t.

Turns out, their residents have more than just Square One to smile about. The full report can be read online.
