Avatar: The Last Airbender is gearing up for production on season 3 as season 2 wraps production. The announcement was made in a fun video made by the cast of the series.
Season 1 of Netflix’s live-action adaptation of Nickelodeon’s beloved animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender, was a divisive season. On one hand, it offered a darker and grittier take on the fantasy series, with epic battles and a much grander, more epic scope. However, it did also feel unworthy of the original series to some, thanks to a hugely condensed plot and a distinct lack in the humour department.
With all of that said, one thing that could not be argued with is the viewership figures. The series topped the streamer’s weekly charts for several weeks running. In its debut week, the series managed to clock up an impressive 21.2 million views and 154.4 million hours watched. Netflix promptly renewed Avatar for a further two seasons, through to its natural conclusion in season 3.
Season 2 started filming in September 2024, wrapping in May 2025, a little longer after it was initially scheduled to wrap. The series has now entered production on season 3. The news was announced a fun video from the main cast. “We’re just getting started,” said star Daniel Dae Kim (Fire Lord Ozai). Check it out:
