The Last Airbender trailer revealed ahead of San Diego Comic-Con

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, the sequel to the beloved Nickelodeon animated series, has had a troubled road to release. Originally scheduled to premiere in 2025, the film was delayed, had its theatrical release scrapped, and then had footage leaked. But now you can get a first official look at Team Avatar back in action with a trailer for the film, which will debut on July 24 at San Diego Comic-Con.

At the end of Avatar: The Last Airbender, Aang and his allies ended the Fire Nation’s genocidal war and began a new age of peace. But as the show’s name implies, Aang doesn’t get to celebrate equally. The Air Nomads were eradicated by the Fire Nation to keep the Avatar from interfering with their conquest. But Aang finds new hope for his people when he wasn’t the only Airbender to spend a century frozen in an iceberg.

The trailer introduces Tagah (Dave Bautista), an objectively hunky Airbender who wants to work with Aang (Eric Nam) and Team Avatar to uncover an ancient power that could save the Air Nomads from extinction. It’s pretty clear this alliance doesn’t last given we also see Tagah wielding a glowing red weapon while Aang says, “I promise you I’ll fix it.” Team Avatar also faces another threat, an archer who wants to gain the power of bending for herself.

Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko seem to be delivering all the epic battles and camaraderie you could want from an Avatar film, though the story seems to borrow a lot of plots from their sequel series The Legend of Korra. The 2012 show’s first season featured a villain stoking anti-bender sentiments while its third season included the return of airbending and a villainous airbender who wanted to end the Avatar cycle. While the story might not be entirely original, we’re just excited to spend time with the Gaang again.

Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender premieres on Paramount Plus on July 25.
