The New ‘Beer Train’ Taking Travellers to Oktoberfest This Autumn – With On-Board Draft Beer and €99 Tickets, Canada Reviews

27 August 20252 Mins Read

What’s better than beer? More beer – and preferably served on the move.

This year, a special Oktoberfest train is giving thirsty passengers the chance to get the party started at the carriage bar before rolling them straight into the heart of Munich’s legendary beer festival.

Departing from Rome, the Espresso Monaco, operated by Italian company FS Treni Turistichi Italani, is a 16-hour journey packed with ‘Bavarian-themed entertainment’, an abundance of fresh draft beer, a carefully curated menu of German delicacies, and, we’re sure, lots and lots of dancing.

The overnight train comes kitted out with seats, couchettes and sleeping cars – perfect for catching some shut-eye before necking the steins at Oktoberfest.

And if you’re not in Rome, fear not: you can also catch the Espresso Monaco from Verona, Trento, Bolzano, Bressanone, Fortezza, Vipiteno, Colle Isarco, and Brennero.

The best bit? It won’t drain your beer money. One-way fares from Rome to Munich start at just €99 (£85), while return tickets dip as low as €89 (£76). There are only two departures to choose from – Friday September 26 and Friday October 3, both at 8pm – with return trips at 2.30pm on Saturday October 4 and Sunday October 5.

With free-flowing beer, comfy carriages, and purse-friendly tickets, the Espresso Monaco is the ultimate prelude to Oktoberfest. Sometimes, the journey can be just as fun as the destination.
