A Unionville heritage home is currently on the market for $3.88 million, and it comes with quite the claim to fame.
The massive property at 31 Victoria Ave dates back to 1875, spans approximately 2,840 square feet and sits on a 66-by-132-foot lot overlooking a ravine and river, but people are paying more attention to the fact that it was featured in the original Gilmore Girls series!
The house hardly needs a television credit to be interesting, though. The 150-year-old property is one of Unionville’s most iconic heritage homes, with authentic architectural details that have been preserved over the years. A wraparound verandah circles part of the exterior, while original pine floors, exposed wood beams and two staircases add character inside. The house also has three fireplaces (two wood-burning and one gas).
The living room has a wet bar and several walkouts to the backyard and patio, while the renovated kitchen comes with marble countertops, a gas stove and integrated Miele appliances.
Upstairs, the primary bedroom has its own vintage fireplace and walkout. There are two more bedrooms and a separate sitting room, while the finished lower level can be used as a rec room or guest suite.
But the most interesting part of the property might be the second building out back! The restored, 550-square-foot detached heritage building served as the village bakery from 1910 to 1984 and is included in the sale. The building now has heating, air conditioning and internet, and its commercial zoning could allow it to be used as an office, gallery or other business space.
Unionville is just under an hour’s drive from Toronto and has a real connection to Gilmore Girls. The show’s pilot was filmed along Main St, with the village standing in for Stars Hollow before production later moved to the Warner Bros. lot in California. If you visit today, you can channel your inner Gilmore and explore some of the iconic locations featured in this popular early-2000s TV series, including the Stars Hollow sign, Taylor’s Olde Fashioned Soda Shoppe and the original Luke’s Diner.
