Serena Williams attended Super Bowl LIX and was hoping to bring her daughter, Olympia, to meet Taylor Swift, but that never happened.
In an interview with Time, Williams talked about the Super Bowl — during which she made a surprise appearance for Kendrick Lamar’s Halftime show — and reacted to Swift being booed when she appeared on the jumbotron.
“Why would you boo her? That’s so mean. That’s just awful,” she told the outlet. Williams went on to explain her reasoning for keeping her distance from Swift during the big game. She said that she waited outside of Swift’s suite, hoping to catch the pop star at some point, but she didn’t push the issue because she figured there was a lot of emotions going on due to the Kansas City Chiefs being down.
“I’m such a mom. I was ready to go in here myself and be like, ‘Taylor, come get this girl,'” Williams told the outlet. “It’s hard when your team is losing. I totally get it.”
Swift has been dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce since 2023. The Philadelphia Eagles ended up beating the Chiefs 40-22.
Williams went on to say that she’s laser-focused on her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their kids.
“My husband and I, we’re so in a different space. We’re so connected, we’re so in love, we’re just, like, trying to get our daughter Taylor Swift autographs. And nothing else,” she said.
The retired tennis star made Time’s “Most Influential People” list for 2025.
“I’m honored to be a part of this group,” she captioned an Instagram post on April 16.
