For any small business, hitting the 20-year mark is a major achievement. For restaurants that opened in 2005, that feeling seems even more potent: They’ve weathered at least one major financial crisis, endured a global pandemic, and witnessed (for better or for worse) the rise of technology that has put a camera in everyone’s pocket and social media platforms that amplify it all. As everyone’s relationship with food and dining has changed over the past two decades, restaurants have admirably adapted. They’ve (sigh) pivoted and grown, and in many cases led the charge into the next exciting new thing. Here, a look at how six restaurants that were born in 2005 compare, then and now.
