The Royals, Mismatched and Black Warrant

The Royals Renewed At Netflix

Picture: Netflix

It was a busy day for Netflix India as they renewed a trio of their shows. The Royals and Black Warrant will return for second seasons, while Mismatched is now confirmed to come back for season 4.

For a while, all the buzz surrounding Netflix India has been about projects that aren’t going forward. First was the cancellation of the series Kaala Paani, despite it having been officially renewed in 2023. Then, news leaked that director Karan Johar paused development of his first web series, Jet Set Go, when he couldn’t secure the cast he wanted for the budget he was given.

The tide shifted last week with the announcement of premiere dates for two returning series. Season 2 of the thriller Rana Naidu launches on June 13, and celebrity chat show The Great Indian Kapil Show kicks off its third season on June 21. Then today, Netflix India announced official renewals for three series and updated the status of another returning show in production. Let’s see which Netflix Indian series are coming back for more!

If you want to see what other Indian movies and shows Netflix has in store for the rest of this year and beyond, check out our full 2025 Netflix Indian preview.

Official Indian Series Renewals

The Royals

A Season 2 pickup for The Royals shouldn’t come as a surprise. Upon its premiere on May 9, the glitzy romantic comedy claimed spots in the Netflix Top 10 Non-English TV Shows rankings in 58 countries around the world — the first Indian Original series to achieve such widespread popularity. Showrunners Rangita Pritish Nandy and Ishita Pritish Nandy tell Netflix:

Season 1 of The Royals was our love letter to the romcom genre; palaces, polo races, midnight masqued balls, fort-top romps and raves—love at its most chaotic and charming. That struck a chord and trended globally. This told us just one thing: we had to come back for more. We are thrilled to team up with Netflix for a second season that’s going to be bigger, bolder, and even more fabulous. Expect more fire, more feisty banter, and yes, a whole lot of drama. Because in our world, the crowns may be metaphorical—but the chaos is royally real.

Black Warrant

Broad critical acclaim helped secure a second season for Black Warrant, the crime drama based on the memoirs of Tihar Prison jailer Sunil Gupta. Creator-director Vikramaditya Motwane tells Netflix:

“The love and appreciation we’ve received for Black Warrant has been overwhelming and deeply encouraging. Collaborating with Netflix, Applause Entertainment, and Confluence Media to bring Sunil Gupta’s unique perspective and powerful story to life has been an incredibly fulfilling journey. We’re grateful to Sunil for trusting us with his story, and to our stellar cast and crew for bringing such heart and conviction to this world. We can’t wait for audiences to see what’s in store for Season 2, as we dive deeper into the human stories, moral complexities, and raw realities of life inside Tihar.”

Mismatched

Lovebirds Dimple (Prajakta Koli) and Rishi (Rohit Saraf) return for a fourth and final season of the coming-of-age relationship drama Mismatched. Producer Ronnie Screwvala says this about the show’s swan song:

“This show has become a true fan favorite, and the love for Dimple and Rishi has grown with every season. It’s been amazing to see how their story has sparked conversations, inspired fan theories, and built such a passionate community. Our collaboration with Netflix has helped shape a series that feels both personal and universal, and we’re excited to return with more of the emotion, chaos, and charm that audiences have come to love.”

Production Status Update

Maamla Legal Hai

Netflix also reports that filming is underway for Season 2 of the courtroom comedy Maamla Legal Hai. This is reassuring news as the studio behind Maamla Legal Hai — Posham Pa Pictures — is the same studio that produced Kaala Paani. Netflix says this of the new season of Maamla Legal Hai:

Season 2 has begun filming and will bring a fresh dose of dis-order and eccentric legal battles. The beloved team of lawyers featuring Ravi Kishan, Naila Grewal, Nidhi Bisht, and Anant Joshi is ready to make a comeback to the courtroom. The new season also introduces the multi-talented Dinesh Lal Yadav, known as Nirahua, and the always entertaining Kusha Kapila, who joins the cast with her signature spark.
