The Sims 4 Build Mode might be being used to sell homes

Building has always been a big part of The Sims 4, but one real-life company may have taken that sentiment to the next level. Worldwide Steel Buildings, a manufacturer that sells pre-engineered steel building kits, largely shows off real-life examples on its website. The only exception is when it comes to tiny homes, which many fans have recognized as distinctly Sims 4-style builds.

Tiny homes have long been popular in The Sims 4 community. Whether they’re being used in a rags-to-riches challenge as cheap housing, or simply an aesthetic choice, many tiny homes can be found within the game’s gallery and shared online. In 2020, a Tiny Living Stuff Pack was even released, embracing the trend.

Reddit user youandyourfijiwater reached the front page of The Sims 4 subreddit with a post regarding the manufacturing site, showcasing two tiny homes that appear to be made in-game. Commenter reactions varied: Some pointed out that the example homes even feature interior pictures, which further supported the poster’s claims, and others mentioned how using The Sims 4 would be cheaper than the cost of computer-aided design (or CAD) software. Other comments were very positive, with one user commenting, “Being honest, I would love a company doing this rather than the stupid AI.”

Some users were skeptical that The Sims 4 had been used directly, questioning if it could be a case of poorly-written AI prompts, or assets acquired from a site like Fiverr. Others speculated the entire site is a scam or very elaborate trolling, but Worldwide Steel Buildings has been accredited by the Better Business Bureau for 20 years.

Worldwide Steel Buildings does not explicitly disclose any usage of The Sims 4 in these builds, and the company did not respond to Polygon’s request for comment. However, there’s a slew of evidence pointing to the game being the method in which these tiny homes were designed.

Aside from the instant recognizability that many fans picked up on, throughout the collection of homes, you can spot exact items from the game, like the Pumpkin Trio from Seasons, the Candle Making Table from Eco Lifestyle, and several interiors that utilize items from the Laundry Day DLC. In some builds, the signs that demarcate in-game fishing location spots can also be seen in the background.

If these were indeed made by a Sims builder, they appear to really know their stuff, incorporating items from a wide range of DLC and seemingly even using the very popular spiral staircase mod in some tiny homes. Honestly, especially considering the horrific things some players build, a Sim could do much worse than winding up in one of these homes.
