The Sims 4’s latest expansion pack, Enchanted by Nature, has received quite a bit of promotion from publisher Electronic Arts since its release in July, but its latest promo for the game — an FKA Twigs music video made in-game and sung in Simlish — isn’t as out of left field as it might sound.
Set to a Simlish version of “Perfect Stranger,” the music video is a collaboration between FKA Twigs and The Sims 4 content creator SolitaSims, a member of EA’s Creator Network who frequently posts well-posed screenshots and choreographed videos of their Sims, which their thousands of followers have grown quite attached to.
This certainly isn’t the first time EA has convinced a popular musical artist to sing in The Sims’ gibberish language. Back in 2004, EA’s bizarre Sims spinoff The Urbz: Sims in the City spawned a simlish version of the Black Eyed Peas’ “Let’s Get It Started,” which the group had re-recorded in Simlish for the game. Like the Sim-version of FKA Twigs who appears in the “Perfect Stranger” music video, Sim versions of each member of Black Eyed Peas appeared in The Urbz as NPCs.
Then in 2012, the Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats Stuff Pack was released for The Sims 3, and its soundtrack came with a Simlish version of Perry’s popular single “Last Friday Night.”
FKA Twigs hasn’t yet publicly commented on The Sims 4 collaboration, but SolitaSims (who created both the Sims featured in the video and its choreography) is using their time in the spotlight to encourage other Sims 4 content creators to share their work on social media.
“Who would’ve thought this little psychopathic Sim i’d play for fun would eventually become immortalized in the Sims franchise,” SolitaSims said on X (formerly Twitter), sharing screenshots of one of the Sims that appeared in the music video. “If this isn’t your sign to just post the content, idk what is.”
