The Truth Is Out There: 'X-Files' Is Getting an Official 2,020-Piece LEGO Set

2 July 20252 Mins Read

LEGO knows the truth is out there…and it wants fans to build it.

The popular brick-building brand had asked the public to submit an idea for its “Build Your Own Nostalgia–’90s Throwback!” contest that fans would like to see come to life in LEGO form. Months later, the Danish company officially confirmed which idea won.

Those of you who had hoped The X-Files-inspired LEGO set would win, congrats. The contest was no “one in five billion” chance, but the stakes were pretty tough and the competition was fierce. Ultimately, The X-Files: The Truth Is Out There set did take first place, followed by a Jumanji (1995)-inspired build, aBuffy the Vampire Slayer LEGO recreation, a set based onEdward Scissorhandsand finally one for TheFifth Element.

According to an official description provided by WetWired, the fan who created it, the to-be-realized X-Files set is a perfectly spooky recreation of the ’90s smash hit and allows fans to “piece together the global conspiracy, brick by brick” (and there are approximately 2,020 of them).

Featured in the set are two scenes that meld together, one depicting a UFO in the woods and the other Mulder’s basement office. A few key characters have also been LEGO-fied, including FBI Agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), along with a figurine of Assistant Director Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), Eugene Tooms (Doug Hutchison), a grey alien, The Jersey Devil and Syndicate Leader.

Though several would-be customers admit that fan submissions aren’t always able to be exactly recreated as they were first drawn up, they’re confident LEGO is going to do the show justice.

“I’m sure it will be awesome,” one Reddit user asserted.

“I’m cool with whatever decisions Lego makes,” another shared, “they know what they’re doing.”

“I always believed!” a third joked.

“I’m excited!” one more cheered. “If it looks half this good I’ll still likely be all over this.”

An expected release date has not yet been announced, but as IGN pointed out, the idea is likely still in the development phase, so it may be a while before fans hear anything more on the project.
