The judges have tasted, the scores are in and Toronto finally has a subway beef patty champion!
In collaboration with the TTC, we brought together a panel of patty lovers — chef Lonie Murdock of Miss Likklemore’s, chef Dadrian Coke of Chubby’s Jamaican Kitchen, Streets of Toronto’s Kaitlin Narciso, Toronto creator Fred B.K. and Josh Colle of the TTC. On Sept. 21 at Summerhill Station, they faced off in a live blind taste test, putting six Jamaican beef patties from around the city through their paces to crown the ultimate commute snack.
The judges had plenty to talk about, and every patty brought something different to the table. Scotty Bons brought a slow-building heat, Kingston 12 impressed with its flaky crust, Caribbean Queen went generous on the filling, TinNel’s delivered a balanced bite, Randy’s brought the fire and Allwyn’s showed up with golden, flaky pastry and filling right to the edges. In other words, there was something to love in every bite — even if one patty ultimately took the top spot.
When the scores were tallied, Randy’s Patties took second place, earning high marks from the panel for its rich Scotch bonnet flavour and authentic kick.

The top spot went to Allwyn’s Bakery, which impressed the judges with its golden, flaky pastry, generous filling and just-right crust-to-meat ratio. After six patties and plenty of tasting, it earned the title of Toronto’s best subway patty!
