The TTC is hiring for a range of roles across Toronto, with some positions offering salaries of up to $168,000 per year. While some jobs require a university degree, others are open to applicants with different experience.

There are TTC job openings across multiple departments, including signals, electrical and communications, legal services, fare inspection, plant maintenance, and accounting — to name a few.

Assistant Designer, Communications

Salary: $87,596.60-$109,509.40

Who Should Apply: If you’re someone who enjoys solving problems and thinking on your feet, this role could be a perfect match.

You will be expected to:

  • Analyze and track data, run tests and evaluations, and identify ways to enhance the safety, efficiency, and productivity of the TTC’s SCADA and control systems.
  • Help with the day-to-day operation of systems — such as adding or removing points, updating graphics, adjusting settings, and managing user accounts and profiles.
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop material lists, technical specifications, standards, and procedures for control systems.
  • Be capable of communicating effectively using different tools and platforms.

To apply, you should have:

  • A post-secondary diploma or university degree in a relevant field. A suitable combination of education, training, and relevant experience may also be accepted.
  • A solid understanding of key regulations like the Ontario Hydro Electric Safety Code, Ontario Building Code, CSA standards, and other applicable codes.
  • Sound judgment, solid technical design experience, strong organization and problem-solving skills, along with clear verbal communication and technical writing abilities.
  • The ability to use CADD software (MicroStation CADD preferred), along with other computer applications like MS Office, Word, and Excel.

Business Analyst

Salary: $87,596.60-$109,509.40

Who Should Apply: You should apply if you’re a data-driven problem solver.

You will be expected to:

  • Use advanced statistics to identify patterns in large datasets and solve complex business challenges.
  • Help develop and maintain information systems for specific sections or departments.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments for sectional systems.
  • Analyze data to find insights.

To apply, you should have:

  • A university degree or college diploma in a relevant field, or an equivalent mix of education, training, and experience.
  • Proven experience in data analytics and creating automated, dynamic dashboards.
  • The ability to plan, manage, and coordinate projects involving the development, rollout, and upkeep of information and database systems.
  • Good presentation skills, along with sensitivity and discretion.

Director, Financial Reporting and Systems

Salary: $134,789.20-$168,550.20

Who Should Apply: This role is an excellent fit for those with substantial experience in accounting and business administration.

You will be expected to:

  • Lead teams responsible for financial reporting, capital and asset accounting, and maintaining the TTC’s financial system.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting policies and standards while advising senior management to support informed and strategic decision-making.
  • Lead investigations into unusual or significant transactions to identify potential reporting errors, perform root cause analysis, and recommend solutions.
  • Manage, train, and coach staff to build their understanding and application of accounting policies, legislation, analytical methods, and reporting requirements.

To apply, you should have:

  • A post-secondary degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may also be considered.
  • A recognized professional accounting designation — it’s mandatory for this role.
  • Extensive experience in financial reporting, accounting, and auditing in a large public or private sector organization.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Fare Inspector

Salary: $34.37-$42.97 per hour

Who Should Apply: You should apply for this role if you have solid judgement and an ability to deal with the general public.

You will be expected to:

  • Ensure the integrity of the fare system while delivering excellent customer service by consistently and fairly enforcing TTC by-laws related to fare inspections and other matters.
  • Carry out fare inspections on proof-of-payment transit lines and in subway stations.
  • Foster and maintain positive relationships and communication with both the public and TTC employees.
  • Respect and value all passengers and employees, ensuring that the needs of individuals with disabilities are accommodated.

To apply, you should have:

  • Completed Grade 12 or the equivalent, along with several years of relevant experience in customer service, hospitality, healthcare, or social services.
  • A proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Strong communication with the ability to navigate sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism.
  • Good judgment supported by strong analytical and decision-making skills, along with strong problem-solving abilities.

General Maintenance Carpenter

Salary: $46.27 per hour plus a $1.75 per hour skilled trade premium for all regular hours worked

Who Should Apply:This role is ideal for individuals with a strong background in carpentry and woodworking.

You will be expected to:

  • Carry out a range of moderately complex carpentry, joinery, and cabinet-making tasks to build, repair, renovate, and maintain structural woodwork.
  • Complete bench carpentry tasks, such as fabricating and assembling wooden items or components.
  • Treat passengers and employees with respect and dignity, ensuring that the needs of individuals with disabilities are accommodated within your area of responsibility.

To apply, you should have:

  • A valid certificate of qualification as a general carpenter (403A), typically obtained with a Grade 12 education and successful completion of a carpentry apprenticeship program.
  • An Ontario Class G driver’s licence.
  • Ability to comprehend verbal and written instructions.
  • A personal toolkit based on the established list.

General Painter

Salary: $44.94 per hour plus a $1.75 per hour skilled trade premium for all regular hours worked

Who Should Apply: You should apply if you have at least three-and-a-half years of painting experience, including a minimum of one year as a painter’s improver.

You will be expected to:

  • Prepare and apply paint, wall coverings, and other finishes to various interior and exterior surfaces using techniques like scraping, sanding, brushing, and spraying.
  • Perform glazing work on windows and skylights and produce engraved signage.
  • Operate a TTC vehicle to transport crew and equipment to job sites and use a forklift to load and unload materials.
  • Set up and operate computerized engraving and bevelling machines to produce signs and may also install completed signs.

  • A certificate of qualification as a commercial and residential painter and decorator issued by the Ontario Ministry of Skills Development.
  • An Ontario class G driver’s licence.

Track Maintainer Trainee

Salary: $26.74-$34.72 per hour

Who Should Apply: You should apply for this role if you want to become a fully-trained track maintainer.

You will be expected to:

  • Align the track and ensure the correct gap for thermite welding.
  • Assemble switches and turnouts or rebuild them using new parts when needed.
  • Operate and service different types of electrical and pneumatic equipment.
  • Start, operate, shut down, and perform minor maintenance on machinery, tools or related accessories.

Note: All work is carried out under the supervision of streetcar way maintenance staff.

To apply, you should have:

  • At least one month of experience as a track worker.
  • Completed Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education.
  • The ability to comprehend both verbal and written instructions.
  • An Ontario class G driver’s licence.

Successful candidates will be classed as track maintainer trainees for a period of nine months, during which they will receive training. Upon successful completion of classroom and on-the-job training, they will be promoted to track maintainers.
