The ultimate guide to a budget-friendly summer weekend in B.C.

3 July 20254 Mins Read

Summer’s finally here! It’s giving beach days, trail hikes, backyard hangs, and “let’s just get out and do something!” energy.

Whether you’re chasing waterfalls, ferry-hopping to the islands, or just planning the perfect picnic, the costs can sneak up fast.

No matter what activities you’ve got planned this year, a BCAA GO Membership is your go-to life hack. It saves you money on all the little things that add up — gas, groceries, Evo Car Share, and more — so you can make the most of life here in B.C. In fact, it can potentially save you over $1,000 a year on everyday purchases.

If you’re looking for inspo, we’ve rounded up a few easy weekend plans to try this summer — plus how BCAA GO can help you enjoy them while spending less.

Hike to a local picnic spot

Nothing screams summer like a hike that ends with a beautiful picnic.

Grab your crew, pack the snacks, and discover one of our local picnic-perfect gems like Bowen Lookout — a short trail near Strachan Creek, or Dog Mountain, an easy uphill hike that delivers serious views of Vancouver and the water below (especially at sunset — trust us!).

Or, head to the always popular Lighthouse Park in West Van, which has forest trails that lead to rugged cliffs and beautiful oceanside views. You’ll find an area with picnic tables at the main lighthouse viewpoint, but if you want to take in the sights a little more, you can spread out your picnic on the smooth granite rocks facing the water.

Fuel the picnic without draining your wallet by saving 3 cent per litre on gas at Shell and get 10% off snacks for your picnic. You can also take advantage of the 5% BCAA GO grocery discount at Meridian Farm Market.

And if you don’t have a car? No problem! BCAA GO Members also save 10% on Evo Car Share trips (up to $80 per year).

Take a day trip to Nanaimo

A summer weekend doesn’t need to include big hotel bills or hours of driving. Take a trip to Nanaimo on Vancouver Island — you don’t even need to bring your car!

Hop on the Hullo Ferry from downtown Vancouver and enjoy $10 off your round trip as a BCAA GO Member. Then, once you’re there, getting around Nanaimo is a breeze. Evolve E-Bikes, E-Scooters, and Evo Return are conveniently located right at the Hullo Ferry terminal, and you’ll get 10% off trips.

You can stay local, exploring the waterfront and indulging in Nanaimo bars where they were born, or book an Evo Return in advance and head off to places like Neck Point Park or the Malaspina Galleries on Gabriola Island.

Stay and play in town

Bit of a thrill-seeker? Hitting up the epic rollercoasters and rides at Playland is a no-brainer! As a BCAA GO Member, it’s even better, because you save 30% on admission to Playland and the PNE Fair when you purchase your passes online.

Kick things off with the newest addition, Thundervolt — Canada’s fastest electric launch coaster. Then check out classics Atmosfear, where you’ll be raised 21-8ft up to the sky while spinning 360 degrees, and of course The Beast, an out-of-this-world pendulum ride.

Between rides, snack your way through mini donuts, poutine, and all the deep-fried deliciousness you can handle.

This year, PNE is also hosting Summer Night Concerts, which is set to feature an incredible lineup of artists — including Lynyrd Skynyrd, Counting Crows, Leon Bridges, Meghan Trainor, and more. And yes, you guessed it, admission is also discounted with BCAA GO! Members get $5 off tickets, and this includes entry to the PNE Fair.

More of a sports fan? BCAA Members can also score up to 20% on Vancouver Whitecaps FC single match tickets online.

Time to say yes to more good times and summer memories! Right now, a BCAA GO Membership is just $4 month. Head over to BCAA GO’s website to sign up now and you can get your first three months of membership FREE!
