The ultimate street party is back as Summer on 17th returns to Calgary

10 June 20252 Mins Read

Summer on 17th is returning for its fourth season, and it’s sure to be bigger and better than ever. Brought to you by the more than 700 businesses that make up the 17th Ave district, this series of events includes live music, great shopping, and some surprises along the way.

The festivities will kick off in Tomkins Park on June 20 with the Western Weekender. Swing on by for a weekend full of vintage Western goods from local businesses and great tunes from local performers. It’s the perfect way to prep for Stampede! Cowboy hats aren’t required, but they’re certainly encouraged. After all, this ain’t your first rodeo.

If it’s the entertainment factor you really love, then be sure to keep an eye out for the Sidewalk Series. This brand-new component of Summer on 17th will feature a lineup of local talent popping up in unexpected places on June 25, July 23 and 29, Aug. 7, 22, and 27, and Sept. 4 and 17.

More coming soon

And dust off your Walkman, because July 19 will host the 80s Retro Weekend. Details haven’t been released yet, but we’re sure it’ll be totally tubular. The same goes for the 90s Throwback Weekend happening August 16. We’re crossing our fingers for some sweet vintage shopping, because yes, the 80s and 90s are considered “vintage” now. It’s fine.

Finally, wrap up the summer with Movie Weekend, an outdoor movie series where your favourite films come to life. Is there anything better than watching a great show outdoors while the sun sets? Yeah, didn’t think so. While this year’s flicks have yet to be announced, last year screened Ghostbusters, Sixteen Candles, Footloose, and Pretty in Pink.

Check back in on the 17th Ave website for updates, and be sure to check out the festivities while the sun is still shining!

When: Dates vary
Where: Tomkins Park — 17th Avenue & 8th Street SW and 304 18th Ave. SW
