The Unexpected Thing a Formula Drift Pro Checks Before Every Road Trip

21 June 20252 Mins Read

With summer officially here, that family road trip you planned months ago is finally just around the corner. But before you go hitting the road, there’s one tip everyone should know about–especially those traveling with kids.

While more common advice includes having your trusted mechanic do a once-over on your car before taking off and packing a cooler to keep cold waters and snacks accessible, Formula Drift pro Ryan Tuerck shared one piece of advice that’s so simple it’s probably the easiest suggestion to overlook.

Parade caught up with Tuerck ahead of The Gauntlet in Englishtown, New Jersey, on Saturday, June 21, and while chatting about the big race and all things cars, Tuerck offered a brilliant suggestion.

When we asked the 40-year-old career motorsports pro, who’s also known for his creative and boundary-pushing car builds, what he’s double-checking before pulling out of the driveway, his answer might surprise you (as it surely did us!).

“I’m looking at I have baby diapers and wipes and some monster trucks for my son to play with, snacks in the car,” he candidly shared with a smile, “and of course, some sustained mind-body energy from Rockstar.”

While the toys occupy the littles, Tuerck said it’s also part of his strategy to stay focused on the really important stuff, like what’s happening on the road in front of him. That’s also where his Rockstar Energy Drinks come in, keeping him “ready to go and focused on the road” no matter the destination.

“Everybody’s got to be right on mind, right on track, no matter where you’re going,” he concluded.

As for the Rockstar Energy drink that he’s grabbing, it will almost always be the original flavor.

“I’ve drank that ever since Rockstar has been around, it’s definitely my go-to,” he added, noting that he’s “tried a lot of the other flavors,” which he said “are phenomenal,” but nothing will ever replace his love for the OG. “It’s classic.”
