The Vancouver Group Chat: What your friends are talking about this week (Aug. 25)

25 August 20263 Mins Read

Welcome back to the Vancouver Group Chat, a roundup of some of the city’s biggest weekly updates. Last week, we looked at some of the final outdoor secret concert pop-ups by Sofar, as well as the opening of the newest Batch at Trout Lake. This week, the city is buzzing with anticipation as the last week of August rolls out some incredible summer bangers.

So before you start frantically googling for things to do and places to see, just know that we’ve rounded up a couple of

Here’s what your friends are talking about this week in Vancouver (Aug. 25).

What’s new, Vancouver?

Vancouver’s lightning round

People are still buzzing about the incredible thunderstorm we had this past weekend, and we can’t blame them a bit.

Apparently, it was one of the most significant on the South Coast in the last 100 years, and the lightning show was definitely a highlight.

Some brave storm admirers made their way to the beach to capture the strikes, while others watched from their balconies. No matter where you were in the city, though, you were almost guaranteed a front-row seat.

One last summer concert at Ambleside

This Saturday, the Soulrise Music Festival is set to transform Ambleside Park in West Van into an immersive show that’s equal parts visual and sound. Headlined by Anyma, the festival will feature world-class techno music right on the waterfront, making it a hypnotic, rave-like experience for the books.

The stacked roster also includes Argy, Kevin de Vries, Korolova, Son of Son, and Daijo.

Burdy’s when?

If you’ve been missing Burdy’s chicken and eggplant parms as much as we have, you’ve likely been creeping on their Instagram page for their new restaurant’s opening details. Just us?

Well, they’ve really started to breadcrumb the official opening date, revealing that the patio is all set, and offering glimpses of the interior that look pretty finalized to us.

Their bio now states that their first-ever permanent location will open on Granville Island this September. Fingers crossed they mean next week!

A rooftop rave over Labour Day weekend

Speaking of end-of-summer bangers, Oddity Project Club is throwing a massive Labour Day party on a rooftop courtyard in the heart of downtown (755 Richards St.) on Saturday, Sept. 5.

If you love house music and want to keep outdoor festival season going for a little while longer, this is your chance.

Rooftop-goers can expect a day-to-night music festival experience, with an official after-party at SOMA Music Hub.

Right now, Tier 2 tickets are on sale for $26 a pop.

Your sign to do something random

That’s it for this week, folks.
