The Verge’s guide to an easier move Canada reviews

3 June 20252 Mins Read

Most of us are familiar with the three basics of moving: packing, moving, and unpacking. But there are a multitude of things to be done both before and after a move that demand just as much of our attention — and for many of these, there are ways that tech can help. In this special group of articles, we will do our best to help you prepare to move out of your current home, and settle comfortably into your new one.

For example, before you move, it’s a good idea to pare down the stuff you’ve accumulated and no longer have the space (or inclination) for, such as old outdated laptops, books you’ve already read, clothes that no longer fit, or toys that the kids haven’t touched for the past three years. And don’t forget the reams of old documents that have been piling up in your filing cabinet — most of which can be digitized and then disposed of.

Another good preparatory step in the moving process is to figure out where all your furniture fits into your new digs before it arrives. Luckily, there are apps for that — and we tell you about some of the best.

We also have advice on moving your smart home setup: what to take, what to leave behind, how to transfer what you leave, and how to get the rest working in your new place. And there’s a step-by-step how-to on mounting a TV on your wall, written by one of our Verge staffers who went through the process himself — with a 77-inch display.

In this second iteration of our moving guide (you can find the first part here), we deal with these questions, and more, including the particular tech difficulties that come with moving overseas, and the emotional traumas involved in the process of changing your home and your life. Read on, and hopefully we can be of some help to those of you who are on your way to a new living space.
