‘The Waterfront’ Trailer And New First Looks Reveal Twisty Netflix Family Succession-Style Drama

We’ve been hyping this one up for a while, but with a brand new trailer and first looks that dropped today, our hype hit new heights. Here’s the latest asset dump for The Waterfront, headed up by Holt McCallany, Maria Bello, Jake Weary, and Melissa Benoist.

First ordered in May 2024 with first looks unveiled in early April of this year, The Waterfront is a Succession-style drama that sees a family’s fishing empire based out of Havenport, North Carolina, facing a tough prognosis with outside forces closing in. Inspired by true events, the story focuses on Harlan Buckley, who has built the fishing empire from scratch but his health crises force his wife Belle and son Cane into reckless schemes to save the business, only for Harlan’s daughter Bree, battling addiction and a custody fight, to become entangled in a perilous relationship that could unravel their legacy forever.

Holt McCallany is the standout for the show so far, with an impressive presence throughout the new trailer. This should come as no surprise, given that he’s certainly one of the main reasons that made Mindhunter (RIP) one of the best series Netflix has ever produced and released.

The Waterfront just earned a spot on our list of 21 movies and series we’re most excited for in the back half of 2025 (we’re cheating, given this is a June release – but forgive us!) alongside other new series set to debut like Amsterdam Empire and Black Rabbit.

As a reminder, Kevin Williamson serves as writer, showrunner, and one of the executive producers, joined by Ben Fast for Outerbanks Entertainment, Michael Narducci, and Marcos Siega. He’s best known for revitalizing the horror genre in the mid-1990s with his screenplays for Scream (1996) and I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). He went on to create and serve as showrunner for the beloved teen drama Dawson’s Creek (1998–2003), which garnered a devoted following and critical acclaim for its sharp dialogue and coming-of-age storytelling. In addition, Williamson has also been the driving force behind series such as The Following, Stalker, and MTV’s Scream, contributing as both writer and executive producer.

The main cast includes McCallany, Bello, Weary, and Benoist as the central characters in addition to Rafael L. Silva, Humberly González, Danielle Campbell, and Brady Hepner, with guest appearances from Topher Grace, Dave Annable, Michael Gaston, Gerardo Celasco, and Zach Roerig.
