While it’s nice and familiar to revisit that same restaurant that does your favourite dish over and over again, it’s always good to be a bit more adventurous and try something new, too.
Exciting new places to eat are launching all the time, after all, and for some fresh inspiration, Condé Nast Traveller has just unveiled its hot list of new restaurants which have opened (or reopened) over the last 12 months.
One of these is Acamaya, a modern Mexican restaurant in the Bywater, New Orleans. Coincidentally, named this iconic city as the best place in the world for food in 2025 – and you can read more on that here.
About the restaurant, CN Traveller writes: ‘Think zippy shrimp aguachile; thick yellow discs of masa crowned with plump lump crab; and flaky fish that has been butterflied and grilled until crispy-skinned and is swimming in a pool of creamy spicy salsa – served with a side of fresh-made tortillas so you can assemble all the DIY tacos your heart (and stomach) desires.’
Recommended: These are Europe’s cheapest (and most expensive) cities for eating and drinking.
Another new opening included is Esperit Roca, run by the Roca brothers who have been at the forefront of Catalonia’s food scene over the last few years. Along with a boutique hotel and wine cellar, a former military fortress in Girona – specifically its stables – is now home to this brilliant restaurant, which has already gained a Michelin star since it opened back in November.
Over in Hong Kong, Jee has been spotlighted as ‘the most exciting Chinese restaurant to pop up in the territory since The Chairman.’ It’s a chic green and white space run by veteran chef Sui Hin-Chi and rising star Oliver Li, and though it’s perched in the central district, CN Traveller writes that ‘Jee’s second-floor location in an office building makes it feel like a bit of a secret.’
