Are you ready for a good chuckle? Canada just ranked poorly among other global elites in a ranking of the World’s Funniest Nations.
The sad but very real results were found by U.K.-based money transfer site Remitly. Contrary to popular belief — or to my opinion, at least — Canada apparently needs a lesson in the humour department.
The Remitly team asked over 6,000 participants from around the world to answer a series of questions from the Humour Styles Questionnaire. This is an assessment of four dimensions relating to individual differences in the use of humour.
“Each question was presented as a statement with respondents asked to say whether they ‘disagree’, ‘slightly disagree’, were ‘neutral’, ‘slightly agree’ or ‘agree’ with the statement in question,” shares the report.
“The cumulative scores provide a comprehensive picture of a nation’s overall humour profile; the higher the score, the more humour-oriented the population.”
Well, Canada didn’t do as well as we had hoped.
According to the results, the Czech Republic tops the study as the funniest nation, scoring a 72.33 out of 112. It also ranked highest for self-defeating humour.
In second place is Portugal with an average of 71.42 and scoring high for affiliative humour. In third and fourth place are Ireland and Belgium, respectively.
Now, as for Canada, you won’t find the Great White North in the top 10. You’ll actually find us just kissing the top 20 cut-off. That’s right, we made it to 17th place.
We managed to beat out the U.K., South Africa and Norway. Canada earned a score of 69.50, which, if you really look at it, is not that far off from first place.
