Theatre of the Beat has announced the lineup for MADGEN, its 2025 Emerging Producers Festival, running August 21 to 23 in Toronto’s east end. Now in its second year, the festival showcases new, socially engaged works produced by emerging artists under the mentorship of well-established theatre artists.

The full lineup is listed below.

From Stardust

Written by annie valentina
Directed by Emma Kay Kennedy
Produced by Reena Goze

Cass, the quiet one in a family of strong personalities, struggles to hold things together as her home life begins to unravel. From Stardust explores grief, memory, and the unlikely comfort of an imaginary David Bowie in times of crisis.

The Apartment

Written by Rimah Jabr
Directed by Summer Mahmud
Produced by Paul Smith

Amira and Jasir are a young couple starting their life together in the West Bank city of Nablus, where they quickly find their new home threatened. The Apartment reflects on themes of love, displacement, and the fragility of home under political pressure.

Horses

Written by Thea Fitz-James and Justin Otto
Produced by Rhys Whitham

At a surreal, high-stakes dance competition, movement becomes a metaphor for artistic labour under capitalism. Horses unpacks the personal cost of performing in a system that demands everything.

MADGEN runs from August 21 to 23 at 2174 Danforth Avenue. You can learn more here.
