There’s a 10 km sandy beach in an Ontario park with incredible sunsets

26 June 20252 Mins Read

Did you know that Ontario’s Pinery Provincial Park is home to a stunning 10 km long beach? It just so happens to be the perfect spot for world-class sunsets, so if you’re looking for the perfect summer trip, keep on reading.

It’s located on the shores of Lake Huron in Grand Bend and is described by Ontario Parks as a “breathtakingly beautiful park.”

According to Ontario Parks, it contains “extremely rare and fragile” Oak Savanna and Coastal Dune Ecosystems that offer breathtaking views. These unique landscapes not only support a rich diversity of plant and animal life but also offer beautiful panoramic views. This makes it a must-visit for nature lovers and conservationists alike.

“Pinery’s landmass was created over the past 6,000 years by sand dune formations, resulting in an impressive coastal sand dune complex spanning over 9.5 km of the Lake Huron shoreline,” writes Ontario Parks.

To give you an idea of how rare these dunes are, Ontario Parks says that they make up less than 0.5% of our province’s land.

Beyond its natural significance, the park’s beach is an awesome spot for families. It features a wide-ranging interpretive program that makes learning about the environment fun and interactive.

But what also stands out, according to Ontario Parks, is its sunsets. They were once ranked among the “Top 10 Best in the World” by National Geographic.

That’s an accomplishment to be proud of.

You can take in the sunset views from the sandy shoreline or on the water. Nothing beats that experience.

And of course, while you’re there, explore Pinery Provincial Park’s hiking trails and more. We’ve put together a little guide on how to spend a day at Pinery Provincial Park.

Have a great summer!
