There’s a clear water beach and a fire tower lookout trail at an Ontario park

4 June 20253 Mins Read

Sandy shores, clear waters, forest trails, and a fire tower view! An Ontario road trip destination is calling your name and has it all. Fushimi Lake Provincial Park is next on our radar, and here’s what to know.

This is not day-trip worthy unless you live near Timmins, Ont. Fushimi Lake Provincial Park is about a 10-hour drive from Toronto. Buckle up!

Next stop: Fushimi Lake Provincial Park

If you’re travelling from southern Ontario, you may want to spend a few days and camp at the park.

There are several ways to do so, including car camping, group camping, and roofed accommodations.

“Campsite-specific reservations are available online or by phone up to five months in advance of your arrival date. Reservations are recommended to secure your campsite,” states Ontario Parks.

Considering camping up in northern Ontario is a popular experience, you may want to look into booking a stay ASAP.

What to expect

While you’re at the park, you can enjoy a peaceful escape within the vast Boreal Forest region, bird-watching as hundreds of species nest here every summer.

For boat enthusiasts, there is a boat launch near the campground and opportunities for canoeing on Fushimi Lake.

When it comes to hiking, there are two trails – Achilles Lake Trail, an easy, 45-minute experience, and Fire Tower Trail, a more strenuous, two-hour venture.

According to Ontario Parks, the Fire Tower Trail actually guides you to one of the few original fire lookout towers left in Ontario.

“The Bannerman Fire Tower was erected in the 1930s, and the ranger in charge of the tower, watched for smoke and lived in a cabin nearby with his family through the summer,” shares the site.

Once you’re done exploring, hit the sandy shores right next to the campground.

It’s a shallow and clear water beach perfect for families. There are change facilities, including a full-size sand volleyball court in the day-use area, another beach, and a spot to play horseshoes.

It’s a cute outdoor experience that you need to experience at least once. With the weather looking better and brighter than ever, maybe a weekend trip up north wouldn’t hurt.
