There’s a new immersive light installation in Yaletown this holiday season that’s free to check out

25 December 20252 Mins Read

It’s hard to believe that Yaletown used to be a commercial warehouse and railyard district, but its surprising heritage only makes it that much more intriguing to stroll down. Today, Yaletown is considered one of Vancouver’s trendiest neighbourhoods, home to some of the city’s most sought-after dining spots and the iconic seawall. And for the first time, Yaletown is shining even brighter thanks to a new, immersive light installation called Sonder: Life in Lights.

Part scavenger hunt, part art walk, the installation leads you down Hamilton and Mainland Streets towards Bill Curtis Square, where snow appears to fall through the magical glow. From there, onlookers can catch a glimpse inside a celebration that brings back all the holiday nostalgia you might be missing.

“We wanted to create something that feels both intimate and expansive,” explains Sarah Vallely, executive director of the Yaletown BIA. “Do a little Christmas shopping, treat yourself to a cocktail, then follow the map of projections and turn a corner you don’t usually take. Every projection captures a little moment of Yaletown’s energy and charm, and together they remind us just how special this community really is.”

From now until Jan. 11, 2026, passers-by and residents alike can enjoy this immersive installation along the waterfront and heritage district. Each light projection reveals something different about Yaletown that you may or may not have known before, so make sure to keep your eyes peeled.

Want to ensure you find every hidden scene on your stroll? You can scan a nearby QR code in person, or visit this online map to access all of the festive light projections scattered throughout Yaletown.

This festive light installation is free to enjoy daily from 5 p.m. onwards.

When: Until Jan. 11, 2026
Where: Yaletown Heritage District and waterfront
