Discover a peaceful spring escape at Ontario’s Rockway Conservation Area, where two waterfalls and a historic salt spring await.
Located along the Niagara Escarpment — about an hour and a half away from Toronto — is where you’ll find this gem. Rockway Conservation Area is in Lincoln, Ont., and offers a serene day trip for nature lovers looking to explore cascading waters and geological wonders.

According to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Area, the conservation area is known for its “history and beauty,” all found within a remote setting.
It’s home to two amazing waterfalls that plunge from heights of 19.5 metres and 12.2 metres. Its watercourse then continues downriver, surging over a series of rapids.
But that’s not all! This area is also home to salt springs. According to the NPCA, it has “some of the best quality and quantity of salt in Ontario.” It dates as far back as 1792.
Though that’s an adventure in itself, there are some recent additions to check out. Per the conservation group, there’s a 1 km long trail with a “granular stone pathway” which improves accessibility for those in wheelchairs.
There are also bike racks, safety fencing, seating areas, and even a new lookout with the best views of the Niagara Escarpment.
To make your trip there even easier, a new parking lot has been installed, which helps reduce the amount of stormwater runoff leaving the site.
It “improves the quality of that stormwater runoff, and serves to enhance the local groundwater regime,” according to the NPCA.
Last year, they installed new automated gates, which meant paid parking was in effect, but that has since changed for 2025.
Per the conservation group, parking fees at Rockway Conservation Area are suspended. The reasoning? The NPCA is developing comprehensive management plans for several conservation areas, so for now, these can be enjoyed for free.
“We invite visitors to enjoy this natural space and encourage those who are able to consider a donation to the Niagara Peninsula Conservation Foundation in support of Nature for All, for Always,” shares the group. “Your generosity helps protect and enhance green spaces across the Niagara Peninsula watershed for future generations.”
This is a great day trip adventure if you’re looking for a peaceful day, outside of the city, even just for a little bit.
