There’s a scenic boardwalk around a shimmering blue lake in Ontario

9 May 20253 Mins Read

Scenic boardwalk adventures are calling your name, and it’s guiding you to Ontario’s Kelso Conservation Area. This beautiful piece of land is home to an extensive network of trails, one of which surrounds a stunning blue lake.

The weather is just right, and outdoor experiences are a must. About an hour away from Toronto, nestled along the Niagara Escarpment in Milton, is the Kelso Conservation Area.

Next stop: Kelso Conservation Area

This outdoor recreational park has so much to offer, from hiking adventures to a waterpark and even a climbing course.

The Escarpment Walk Aerial Course and the Vultures View Climbing Tower will push you to your limits.

“The Escarpment Walk is an aerial ropes course that will test your balance, coordination, and courage as you traverse the climbing elements,” shares Conservation Halton.

“The Vultures View is a climbing tower with three walls, each with a number of different elements and features that will take you more than 45 ft. in the air.”

Helmets, harnesses and climbing equipment are provided, and you’ll also get instructions and guidance from their trained climbing staff.

That, along with its giant floating waterpark called Kelso Cove, there’s lots to do at this conservation area.

Blue oasis

But the star of the show is Kelso Lake, a captivating human-made reservoir initially designed to manage the risk of flooding from the nearby Sixteen Mile Creek.

Over time, it has evolved into a shimmering blue oasis for paddling and swimming.

The sandy shores are the perfect spot to lie out in the sun, and the boardwalk allows you to stroll along the perimeter of the lake with amazing views all around you.

The outdoor enthusiast’s dream continues beyond the water’s edge. The park has a multitude of trails along the escarpment and through Kelso’s old-growth forest.

Hikers and their dogs can traverse the 6.4 km Kelso Conservation Trail, immersing themselves in the fresh air and nature views. Just be sure to have your dog on a leash at all times.

So whether you seek the thrill of a paddleboard, the tranquillity of a lakeside stroll, or the rush of downhill skiing, Kelso is an invitation to embrace the great outdoors.
