There’s a soft sand beach in a beloved Calgary park and it’s now open for the season

2 July 20252 Mins Read

Vacations are expensive, but when you live in Wild Rose Country, there’s no need to purchase a plane ticket if you’re just looking for some sand. Contrary to popular belief, Alberta has several beaches, and one of them is right here in Calgary.

Located in Fish Creek Provincial Park, Sikome Aquatic Facility is a man-made lake where you can tan, swim, snack, and lounge without having to travel far or wide.

Here, families, groups of friends, and couples are welcome to claim a spot by the water and spend a day having fun in the sun, but there are a few things of note before checking it out.

What to know before visiting Sikome

First, there is an admission charge, so come prepared to pay for entry.

According to Alberta Parks, adults who want to visit will be required to pay $8. Seniors and anyone between the ages of six and 17 will be $5, and children under five will be free.

Both debit and credit cards are accepted, and will come in handy if you plan to grab a snack at the concession stand, which is on-site.

Smoking, vaping, and alcohol are strictly prohibited, and unfortunately, so are dogs.

In addition to this, large floaties, amplifiers, large sports equipment, and fully enclosed tents are not allowed, but umbrellas and rackets, small beach balls, and personal speakers are.

Interested in checking it out?

Sikome opened on June 26 and will remain that way until Sept. 1, when it closes for the fall and winter.

For more information on hours (regular and holiday), parking maps, and water quality updates, head to its website now and start packing your bags!

Whether it’s a weekday or weekend, you’re in for a treat. There’s truly no place quite like Sikome!

Where: 22 Sikome Cir. SE, Calgary
